Traditional products to be sold in big stores

Traditional food and products will be displayed on special shelves in supermarkets and hypermarkets, according to a decision taken in a meeting of the retailers and the Sanitary Veterinary Authority (ANSVSA).

Traditonal products producers, from different regions, will thus have access to a larger market.

The move is believed to be a bid to defuse a proposal by deputy Valeriu Steriu that all large commercial malls be closed on Sundays.

The MP argued that the same rule as that applied in Austria and Germany where shops are closed on Sundays should also apply in Romania. The proposal is intended to inject fresh vigour into traditional trading in local markets that are failing to complete with larger stores.
